Peace Club girls won the first places in the marathon race

Peace Sports Club for Persons with Disability congratulates the girls of the club on their victory in the top four places of the marathon race which was held by the Knight Club of Palestine for Women with Disabilities in cooperation with the Ministry of Women in the Port of Gaza within the 2018 activities.

The Visit of the Prisoners’ Commission to Peace Club on the occasion of World Disability Day

We were honored by a visit from the brothers of the Prisoners’ Commission to Peace Club on the occasion of World Disability Day. We talked about the latest developments in the situation of persons with disabilities, injured people and prisoners. The delegation was headed by the beloved brother Jamal Awni Farwana, Bassam Hassouna and many other leaders.
Mr. Farwana confirmed that the prisoners and the wounded are pillars of struggle and sacrifice in the Gaza Strip.
Mohammed Al-Arabi welcomed the guests and expressed his happiness with the visit of the Prisoners’ Commission of Fatah movement at the club’s headquarters. He emphasized that the prisoners, the wounded and persons with disabilities with their steadfastness and national struggle are working together towards the liberation of Palestine, referring to the martyr Ibrahim Abu Thuraya as an example.

Opening a course on “the Preparation of the Shadow Report” at the Commodore Hotel in Gaza

Disabilities Representative Persons Network and the Peace Club for Persons with Disabilities in cooperation with Bethlehem Arab Society for Rehabilitation opened a course on “the Preparation of the Shadow Report” at the Commodore Hotel in Gaza. The course included 12 persons with disabilities distributed to the institutions of disability in the Gaza Strip taking into account the geographical areas and disabilities.
The course focused on the mechanisms of preparing the report and sending it through the United Nations, after the State of Palestine signed the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. The training lasted for 13 days and a practical training was conducted during the two-day training, including interviews and a focus group to connect to the facts of the shadow report.

The basketball team for girls with disabilities hosted a delegation from Slovenia headed by Mrs. Natasha

The girls’ basketball team at the Peace Club for persons with disability hosted Mrs. Natasha from Slovenia on a training visit where the girls played on the playground and a positive atmosphere had prevailed. She said that sport is the title of rehabilitation and social integration and promised to have a joint cooperation with the Slovenian team in the near future.

The Society of Physically Handicapped People and Peace Club hosted a delegation from Humanity and Inclusion

A delegation from Humanity and Inclusion is hosted by the Society of Physically Handicapped People and the Peace Club to talk about new projects. The delegation included the presidency of Humanity and Inclusion in the world and attended to keep up to date on the services provided by the Society of Physically Handicapped People and the Peace Sports Club for Persons with Disability to establish the first stadium specialized in the sport of people with disabilities and talk about new projects that will be implemented during the new year. One of the most important projects is the accessibility of Gaza beach for people with disabilities.

The International Day of Persons with Disabilities

On the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, 3 December, many people with disabilities crowded before the Council of Ministers in Gaza to demand their rights from the Palestinian Government of National Consensus. In the revival of the World Day of Disability, persons with disability gave a speech in which they emphasized on the necessity of implementing the rights of persons with disabilities as stipulated in the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the necessity of activating the Legislative Council. Abeer Al-Horakli, a representative of persons with disabilities, called on the government to find a solution to their issues particularly accessibility, rehabilitation, health and employment.

The Legislative Council honors the girls of the Peace Club, the winners of the Basketball Championship

The Palestinian Legislative Council honored girls with disabilities, the winners of the Wheelchair Basketball Championship in the presence of Dr. Ahmed Bahar, the First Deputy of the Legislative Council Chairman, the Deputy Abdel Rahman Al-Gamal, the Deputy Huda Naim, the Deputy Mohammad Shehab and the Deputy Yousef Al-Sharafi, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Mr. Ahmed Muheisen, Dr. Mohammed Al-Madhoun and a member of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports Mr. Abdel Salam Haniya. The Council honored 10 players of the first place winners from the Peace Club, 10 players of the second place winners from Al-Jazeera Club, and 10 players of the third place winners from the Knight Club of Palestine for Women with Disabilities.
Dr. Bahar spoke about the respect of the Council for those girls who have persevered and won the top rank in Palestine. Then, Mr. Ahmed Muheisen, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, thanked the Peace Club for Persons with Disability for its interest in this group of people and expressed that his ministry supports the sport of people with disabilities.
Mohammed Al-Arabi, the Chairman of Peace Sports Club for Persons with Disability, thanked the Palestinian Legislative Council for its interest in this group and for honoring these girls in a nice gesture for their great role in society. Furthermore, he said that these girls in spite of their difficult circumstances, pain, disability, and their suffering from the siege imposed on our free Palestinian people started from the closure of Gaza crossings and the permanent interruption of electricity, which have increased their suffering exponentially. However, their love for the homeland and their courage motivate them to be heroes and raise the flag of Palestine in international forums when the opportunity comes. He also said that over the previous period, the Diakonia /Nad Foundation has a great role in supporting these girls through a future sport project which will be implemented by Peace Sports Club for Persons with Disability. The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has also recently supported the basketball game in the Gaza Strip.
Mr. Al-Arabi thanked Mrs. Huda Naim, who cares for people with disabilities and do her best to stand by them and solve their problems. He also called on the Legislative Council to promise explicitly to do another celebration before the end of this year, specifically on December 3, in the World Disability Day, in which we celebrate the accessibility of the beach in Gaza with the participation of the Palestinian Legislative Council, the Municipality of Gaza and all the loyal of our people. Mr. Al-Arabi called on the Legislative Council to call the year of 2018, the year of the persons with disabilities and to apply the Law No. 4 of 1999, which was approved by the late President Abu Ammar but has not been implemented so far.

The Ministry of Education hosted Peace Club

Mr. Kamal Abu Aoun, Head of the Education and Culture Sector, received a delegation from the Education Committee of the Palestinian Legislative Council at the Ministry’s headquarters in Gaza. The delegation included the Deputy Dr. Abdul Rahman Al-Jamal, the Deputy Huda Naim, Mr. Khaled Fada, Deputy Director General of Counselling and Special Education, the Chairman of Peace Club, Mr. Mohammed Al-Arabi and Secretary of the Society of Physically Handicapped People, Mr. Zarif Al Ghorra and a number of representatives of persons with disabilities.
During the meeting, Abu Aoun welcomed the visiting delegation, praising the role of the members of the Legislative Council in serving our people in various fields, especially their interest in people with disability. The Head of the Education and Culture Sector touched upon the educational process and the achievements of the ministry in the field of school buildings, new educational curricula and employment.
Mr. Abu Aoun stressed that the Ministry of Education is keen to play its role and follow up and teach students, including the persons with disability, and continue to implement various programs that concern them in this regard, as well work to promote their rights to education. He also emphasized on the importance of concerted efforts at the official and popular levels to overcome the various difficulties and challenges facing persons with disabilities.
On their part, members of the Legislative Council praised the role of the ministry in the process of developing and improving the educational process despite the different circumstances.
During the meeting, there was a detailed discussion about several educational issues related to the issues of persons with disabilities.

Peace Club participates in the meetings of Disabilities Representative Persons Network

The Chairman of the Club, Mr. Mohammed Al-Arabi, participated in the monthly meeting of Disabilities Representative Persons Network which was held at the club’s headquarters. The meeting included the chairman and members of the network to discuss the developments of the disability movement in the Gaza Strip, the recent activities, the implemented programs and projects and ways of improving and developing through joint teamwork in all institutions.

Peace Club for Persons with Disability meets the Deputy Huda Naim

A delegation from Peace Sports Club for Persons with Disability, included Mohammed Al-Arabi, the Chairman of Peace Sports Club for Persons with Disability, Mr. Zarif Al-Ghorra, Board Member and Mrs. Latifa Al-Jaabari, a disability activist, met the Palestinian Legislative Council Deputy, Huda Naim.
This meeting came in the context of the latest developments in the situation of disability in the Gaza Strip and the extent to which governmental institutions respond to the demands of people with disabilities, particularly with regard to the accessibility of public places for people with disabilities.
Mohammed Al-Arabi, the Chairman of the Peace Club for Persons with Disability said that despite all the efforts made by all institutions working in the field of disability, government, individuals and public figures to make public places accessible to people with disabilities in the Gaza Strip, but the beach and ministries still lack accessibility. The Deputy Huda Naim welcomed the delegation and confirmed her readiness to visit decision makers in municipalities and ministries to reduce the problem and try to find positive solutions to end the suffering of people with disabilities relating to accessibility and particularly with regard to the beach.
This visit comes as part of a future sports project in cooperation between Peace Sports Club for Persons with Disability and Daikonia/Nad Foundation.
